Junior Seau's Death and the Media

Junior Seau's death was a surprise to a lot sports fans. But, do they really need to keep playing his poor mother's gut  wrenching speech talking about the death of her son. I keep hearing the sound track and the video being played over and over again. The media has a way of rubbing things in.

As I was driving my son to school this morning and of course on my way they play his mother breaking down during her speech to the press. It is totally gut wrenching to listen to her. I get a lump in my throat every time I hear it played. I think most mothers can sympathize with her pain. You never imagine burying your child. It has to be a terrible loss to lose your own child to suicide. It has to be even more difficult when it is a death that can be avoided. The media keeps playing it over and over again. There is another way they can report the story. How about high lighting his career in the NFL?

Rumor has it that Junior Seau shot himself in the chest to preserve his brain to be tested. So, the NFL and everyone can see exactly what damage was caused to his brain from playing football. Football players receive repeated damage to their brains from all blows to the head during their career and the repeated concussions they get from the vigorous blows to the head.

Anytime a life is lost to suicide is a horrible tragedy for the people left behind, whether it be an athlete or just your average person who feels their life is no longer worth living. But, please stop replaying his mother breaking down. Leave the poor woman alone and as I sit here writing about the tragedy Seau's mother has experienced, they play it again on the morning news.

Who's to blame for America's overweight children?

I am always hearing about how American children are over weight. They blame the whole problem solely on parents not monitoring what their children are eating and not teaching them healthy eating habits and children not getting enough exercise. Parents are not the only ones to blame, schools play a huge role in the weight problem, offering children chocolate milk with their lunches every day, adding vending machines for the children to get junk food out of to fill up on in school, all the processed foods they feed children, very few school lunches are actual cooked meals. The majority of school meals are quick and easy frozen processed food. They offer children options of buying pizza, tacos, and candy bars on a daily basis as lunch menu options. I don't allow my children to have candy during the week, however they can walk into school and buy candy bars every day! Which are against my parenting rules. Yes, kids do play way too many video games and spend too much time in front of the televisions. But, what about the children who don't spend all day in front of the television all day and who play sports and get involved in numerous activities. You still see children involved in activities who are over weight.

Those factors play a small role in why children are more over weight than they were 20 years ago. Nobody talks about all the hormones being injected in the animals we eat and we are feeding our children playing a role in the weight gain problem of American children. Animals are injected with hormones to make bigger animals to produce more meat from every animal. The hormones do not magically disappear once they are slaughtered and sold in the stores. It is an obvious chain reaction, the animals are injected with hormones and we eat the animals injected with the hormones. Young girls are developing at a much faster rate and beginning menstruate at a much younger age.

We already know the FDA is not looking out for our best interest with all of the toxins, bugs and etc. that are allowed in food our children's baby formula, baby bottles, plastic bottles and so much more and can easily be bought off to approve all this toxins and junk they are feeding us. So, we trust the FDA to say our children eating meat injected full of hormones does not have a significant effect on our children and our bodies? Not only are children struggling with weight loss, adults are also struggling with weight loss. The meat we eat are injected full of hormones and we eat those hormones every day and even several times a day. We eat the hormones and drink the hormones in the milk we drink and give to our children. Who's to blame?

Doomsday Preppers

With the year 2012 all kinds of Doomsday preppers are coming out of the woodwork coming up with emergency plans and stock piling supplies. The scary part is when engineers, retired service men, doctors and so on becoming Doomsday preppers. It makes you question, do they know things we don't? Secrets the government doesn't want out? I guess, we will never know until the time comes.

Some of their fears make sense. Natural disasters have hit the United States  and in the past and other countries.  Why is it impossible to happen here in the United States. Most of us who have experienced natural disasters have survived, but not all. Some of the ideas of underground air tight shelters in their homes can be useful in natural disasters.

I do wonder about the psychological effects they are having on their children. Their children will go in either extremes about prepping. They will either be a prepper and totally against it.

It is always good to be prepared for an emergency, so I guess if they feel they need to prep for Doomsday, go ahead. What is it going to hurt being prepared for a disaster, whether it be a tornado, flood or any other major disaster that may occur.

Stalking up some supplies and having emergency plans are always a good idea, but I don't think I could dedicate my life to prepping for Doomsday.

Eventful Holiday

I'm back, I took a short little break over the Easter Holiday to spend time with the family and my parents who came up for a visit from North Carolina.

We had a nice visit. We went to an antique mall. The kids really enjoyed the antique mall, seeing all the different  things from the past. Sammy was intrigued by the old rotary telephones. The first one she saw, she asked us "How do you use this phone?" Which was funny, you don't think about the old phones and people who have never seen a rotary phone have no idea how to work them. She went through the mall looking at the old dresses and on a scout for every old phone she could find. Adam was interested in all the old coke products memorabilia and the old police uniforms and weapons.

The kids got to go fishing with Grandpa and had a great time. Sammy lost a big fish and Adam caught one fish and threw it back in.

We had a very nice dinner with my family and my husbands mom. We all talked and laughed and had a great time. You have to love those holiday family dinners.

We took our parents out to dinner for their anniversary to the Bahama Breeze restaurant and had an excellent family dinner. It's a fun restaurant to go to with the live music and the Caribbean atmosphere and food.

My parents brought their little Maltese , so even Max (the dog) had a great time. He loves playing with the little dog. They are hilarious together because she is so little and he is so big. He lays on the floor and allows her to crawl all over him. She is mischievous, so the two became partners in crime. Max opened the refrigerator door and was eating the ham with little Lexi standing by watching. I wish I could have caught it camera. We have no idea how he opened the refrigerator door. We were all sitting in the living room watching t.v. when we heard a crash in the kitchen and there was Max with the plate of ham on the floor. Then later, he opened the lid on the trash can and got out a piece of foil with food on it and a paper plate for Lexi. He dropped a plate on the floor in front of her and he went under the table with the foil. They played tag in the backyard, the funny thing was he couldn't catch her.

Between the kids and dogs, we laughed a lot and had a great time.
