The female student who allegedly opened fire right before 9 a.m. inside Salvador B. Castro Middle School and taken into custody. She was not identified and her motive is unclear. The gunfire erupted during the 1st period of the 6th grade classroom.
The female student opened fire Thursday morning, injuring five people and leaving two other students wounded including one in critical condition, police said.
"We do not know yet how a young person ended up having the ability to have access to a firearm and bring it on campus," said Steve Zipperman, chief of the Los Angeles Unified School District police force.
